CAN OLIVE OIL BE USED FOR A GLOWING SKIN

Olive Oil Massage, Rids Wrinkles At Large’

Olive oil is derived from olives and is known as ‘liquid gold’ as it has innumerable benefits. These range from culinary to health benefits. There are four kinds of olive oil and the organic extra virgin olive oil is best suited for the skin. It is the cheapest cosmetic found in our pantry which if applied to the skin can give it an instant glow.  You might have heard about the beauty of the Egyptian queen- Cleopatra. The secret ingredient for her unmarred beauty was none other than the good old olive oil. The oil made her look resplendent and beautiful throughout her life, so if she could look beautiful so could we. Let’s see how olive oil can add to our beauty.

BENEFITS OF OLIVE OIL

Olive oil  is one such oil which matches the chemical structure of our skin’s natural oils. It is an all in one oil which has both health and cosmetic benefits.

§  Rich in antioxidants- these protect the skin against the harm caused by  free radicals which cause early ageing

§  Acts as a natural moisturizer for the skin. The oil helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin and keeps it smooth & glowing. It prevents the skin from drying during winters by keeping it hydrated. It contains squalene which helps in hydration of the skin.

§  It is a cure for blackheads & whiteheads by unclogging the skin pores. The skin remains blemish-free.

§  It helps in healing & rejuvenating the skin by clearing scars and pimple marks.

§  It helps in repairing the skin cells naturally as it contains Vitamin E, Polyphenols & Flavonoids. These compounds help in enhancing the health & glow of the skin

§  Olive oil is antimicrobial in nature so it is used in the treatment of skin problems

§  It is anti-inflammatory in nature

§  Repairs cracked heels

§  Enhances nail health by making brittle nails stronger. The Vitamin E in the oil helps in providing strength to brittle nails.

§  Acts as a makeup remover for the skin.

§  Acts as an exfoliator, a scrub made of olive oil and  sea salt does wonders to the skin

§  It can be beneficial as a face mask for dry skin.

§  It helps in keeping the skin wrinkle-free

§  It contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E &K which helps in treating skin problems like eczema.

We have seen that olive oil is a wonderful product for skincare and one should use certified, organic, cold-pressed, unrefined extra-  virgin olive oil for the skin. This type of oil contains all the beneficial compounds of the oil. It contains zero preservatives which may harm the skin.

How to use-

Use less amount to gain full benefit as using too much can clog the pores and cause more harm. One should start with a few drops on damp skin once or twice a week. Olive oil spray shouldn’t be used on the skin.

It should be used as moisturizer and after-sun treatment:

It can be used as a moisturizer on the damp skin after a bath and should be applied immediately after sun exposure as it has antioxidant properties which protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.

Best methods of usage of olive oil for glowing skin-

Extra Virgin Olive Oil-

I tbsp oil

Facecloth

Hot water

Facial oil massage with fingers, dip cloth in hot water and press on the face, then pat face dry with a paper towel. This should be a part of the daily skin care regimen. The skin becomes clean and glowing

Olive Oil+ Lemon Juice- an equal amount of juice and oil are mixed and applied on the face and kept for a minute and then rinsed with warm water. The final rinse is with cold water. This should be done 2-3 times a week to unclog pores & brighten the skin.

Olive Oil + Honey- 1tbsp oil + 1tsp honey + 1 egg yolk. The three are mixed together and applied to the face for 15 minutes. Then rinse with warm water. This should be done twice a week to give the skin a smooth texture and glow.

Olive Oil+ Castor Oil- 1tsp olive oil + 1tsp castor oil + few drops of lavender or tea tree oil. This is applied to the face with a gentle massage and kept for 10 minutes then rinsed with warm water. This can be done thrice or four times a week. This will make skin soft and glowing.

So olive oil can easily be used for a glowing skin
